Ninja Theory has been hard at work for the last couple of years, working on all sorts of new games. Yesterday, the developers announced their latest endeavor called Project: Mara.
The announcement about Project: Mara was made on Microsoft's Xbox Wire. Not much is known about the game, but Ninja Theory co-founder Tameen Antoniades call it “a real-world and grounded representation of true mental terror.” It was also shared that Project: Mara that will be heavily based on “research, interviews, and first-hand accounts to recreate the horrors of the mind as accurately and believably as possible." He adds that Mara is “experimental” and a “showcase”. Project: Mara somewhat feels like the canceled Hideo Kojima game P.T. Antoniades confirms that Mara will take place in only one location and has one character. The game is set in a modern setting, whereas the developer’s previous title, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, was set in historical fantasy.
You can watch the 42-second teaser trailer below.
We know it’s early, but from the trailer, we can see that the game looks spectacularly good. Here's to hoping that these are the actual graphics.
Ninja Theory has proven themselves as competent developers after the successful launch of their critically acclaimed game Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, which became a sleeper hit within the gaming community. The game’s take on PTSD and mental illness were highly praised. Ninja Theory acted as an independent AAA developer from 2013–2018 only to be acquired by Microsoft to become part of the bigger “Microsoft Studios”. Since then, developers have been working on multiple projects like Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, Bleeding Edge (which is a 4v4 multiplayer melee combat game), and now Project: Mara has joined the list.
As of now, we do not when Project: Mara will release or for what platforms, but given that Microsoft owns the developers, we can safely assume it will be on the next-gen Xbox and PC. More information will be revealed in the coming months. If you are a real nerd (like us), you can also check out the Developer Diaries to follow Project: Mara along every step of development.
