Are you a fan of Arc System Works fighting games? Fan of the Granblue Fantasy series? Then you can experience their newest offering, Granblue Fantasy Versus, once a closed beta on the PlayStation 4 releases later this month.

Arc System Works has been on fire recently with their fighting games, exemplified by the releases of Guilty Gear Xrd, BlazBlue and Dragon Ball FighterZ, which is my favorite fighting game of 2018. Now, it looks like the developer is capitalizing on that success with the addition of Granblue Fantasy Versus – a spinoff from the RPG Granblue Fantasy series – to their fighting games roster.

If you’re interested in applying for the Granblue Fantasy Versus closed beta, you can head on over to the game’s website, which has both English and Japanese localizations. The beta applications are open from now until May 25 at 2 a.m. EDT, so there’s still plenty of time to sign up. As the beta test will most likely focus on server performance, publisher Cygames has noted that most of the offline features will be unavailable for the this build.

The chosen gamers for the beta test will be revealed on May 28, so check your e-mail on that date to know if you’re one of the lucky ones selected to participate.

The full beta testing period is as follows:

  • May 31 from 5 a.m. EDT to 5 p.m. EDT
  • May 31 from 9 p.m. EDT to June 1 at 2 a.m. EDT
  • June 1 from 12 p.m. EDT to 5 p.m. EDT

The upcoming Granblue titles (Granblue Fantasy Versus and Granblue Fantasy: Relink) were also featured recently in a 10-page spread for the Official PlayStation Magazine UK, where the series’ director Tetsuya Fukuhara talked about both titles and the upcoming fighting game’s gameplay and focus.

"Many people think of fighting games when they hear 'esports,' and that's another genre we want to take a stab at," Fukuhara said in the interview when asked about esports. "When the time comes to hold [Granblue Fantasy] Versus tournaments, we'll be sure to deliver something great for fans of Granblue, esports enthusiasts, and spectators alike."

For the full interview and spread, check out Gematsu and the English Granblue subreddit.

Granblue Fantasy Versus is set to be released exclusively on the PlayStation 4 sometime later this year.
