Racing simulation is a genre with an unmatched obsession for attention to detail, authenticity and realism. Gran Turismo and Forza used to be the two pillars that supported sim racing on video game consoles, but with the likes of newer franchises like Project Cars, DiRT, Assetto Cora and Codemaster's F1 series, the genre is now more competitive than ever. And while we expect each game to offer something different, recent reports reveal Gran Turismo apparently made a deal to ensure it will always have something that nobody else will.

According to an article by Eurogamer, Gran Turismo now has sole rights to the legendary Pikes Peak hill climb course. There have been rumors of Pikes Peak returning to Gran Turismo before. The track, which first appeared on Gran Turismo 2, was said to appear in Gran Turismo 5. Via a post from GTPlanet in 2010, a blog post from Red Bull claimed Pikes Peak would make a digital return. Except the track never made it to Gran Turismo 5 and didn't make it to Gran Turismo 6 either.

Still, Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi has always wanted to bring Pikes Peak back to GT. However, whether the track will come to the upcoming Gran Turismo Sport is uncertain.

"We want to put it in the game. When we’ll actually achieve that, I don’t know," said Kaz.
