The prospective Aug. 2 release date for the Galaxy Note 7 is quickly approaching and recent

reports indicate that Samsung will soon move to the production phase of its launch cycle. The Galaxy Note 7 will likely go into mass production in July with a 5 million unit availability expected for its August release, according to ET News .

Samsung appears to be banking on the Galaxy Note 7 to be another consumer favorite like the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, which is expected to hit 25 million units in sales by the end of June. The manufacturer plans to produce 2.5 million units in July and another 2.5 million units in August, according to the Korean publication. This could indicate that Samsung expects the Galaxy Note 7 will sell better than the Galaxy Note 5, for which it produced 5 million units in three months in summer 2015.

Samsung has been able to turn around two years of dwindling sales by reintroducing features like water resistance and expandable storage to the Galaxy S7. The manufacturer is expected to bring such features back to the Galaxy Note 7, which could invigorate interest in the phablet line, which got a premium makeover in 2015 with glass and metal materials, similar to the Galaxy S6.

Currently, rumors suggest the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 may feature a 5.8-inch Quad HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 823 chip, 6GB of RAM, a 12-megapixel camera with f/1.7 aperture, USB Type-C port, a 4000 mAh battery and the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. Reports also suggest Samsung may give the Galaxy Note 7 a curved display, possibly without the Edge branding.

At this time, it remains uncertain whether Samsung will call its new device the Galaxy Note 7 or the Galaxy Note 6. While the Galaxy Note 6 would be next in the phablet number sequence, rumors indicate Samsung may call the device the Galaxy Note 7 as a marketing strategy.
