11 Bit Studios’ success with the survival city building sim Frostpunk was cemented earlier this year when the developer announced that the game hit 1.4 million copies sold during its first year. This success is looking to translate to some new platforms as well, as the studio announced console versions for Frostpunk, aptly called Frostpunk: Console Edition. It’s due out this October for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with a limited run of physical “Signature Edition” copies to be published by Merge Games.

Frostpunk first released for PC via Steam back in April of 2018, and since its initial launch the game has received a Very Positive reception from the community. The planned versions for console will therefore include all of the previous free updates from the aforementioned PC version, including a bonus scenario called “The Fall of Winterhome,” additional options for customization, various difficulty settings, and balance tweaks. In addition to this, 11 Bit Studios also announced more content updates in the future for Frostpunk. Watch a trailer for Frostpunk below.

Frostpunk is a city building game with survival elements, set in an alternate 1886 where the volcanic eruptions of Krakatoa and Mount Tambora, plus the subsequent dimming of the Sun, caused a worldwide volcanic winter. These turn of events have forced what remains of humanity to adapt to harsher conditions. You play the role of the leader of what is possibly the last civilized society on Earth, and it is your job to lead this group of survivors into building a habitable city with what few resources you can scrounge up.

The game features four main scenarios to explore, with various conditions set for success. Along the way, you’ll be faced with several choices that affect future events, all of them either making or breaking your budding apocalyptic civilization. There is also an Endless Mode available which will test your limits, giving you a starting group and letting you play the game for as long as you possibly can with various mechanics thrown in the mix.

Frostpunk: Console Edition will have controls specifically adapted for consoles, along with some adjusted mechanics for an overall smoother and more intuitive experience. It will be released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 11.
