You’ve completed Final Fantasy XV Moogle Chocobo Carnival’s main quest (‘Interrupted by Fireworks‘) and earned the glorious Dream Egg. Great! So, anyone know what it does?

Final Fantasy XV fans are confused about the mysterious carnival prize. Many have tried various methods to hatch the Dream Egg, but have been unsuccessful. We assume there must be a Chocobo inside if it’s something you can hatch, but that might be too obvious? We don’t know if it’ll come handy in another DLC or a specific part of the game. However, we do have some interesting fan theories about the item from the FFXV subreddit. Check out some of the best ones below:

  • AlphaBravo271 says: “Pretty obvious. A human-carbuncle hybrid. Noctis and carbuncle go on a date in the festival. They spend the night in the hotel and come out the next day with an egg. Coincidence? I think not.”

  • bkoneko says: “After seeing spoilers on what is to come, I'm hoping it makes this whole game a dream and Noctis is actually still a kid in bed. (And Ignis is making him orange juice, oatmeal and fruit.)”

  • Sonendo says: “More than likely it will allow you to gain access to the festival after it leaves in February. Permanent access as long as you played it now.”

  • KriegtheImpaler says: “I think it’s just a confetti bomb that'll explode at the end of February with a message thanking you for participating in the carnival. The name is a nice touch as the egg serves as a metaphor.”

  • Adamotron says: “It hatches a Moogle, who rides with you on your Chocobo. Link de Chocobo becomes the summon Choco Mog.”

All interesting theories. There is a good chance Square Enix would extend its Final Fantasy XV Moogle Chocobo Carnival if fans pleaded for it, so the egg being a key back to the carnival doesn’t seem plausible. We like the idea of Noctis having a Moogle companion on his Chocobo that rides along with him, but even that seems a bit too obvious.

Maybe we’re overthinking this. It’s probably just a special Chocobo everyone can take selfies with to make their friends who didn't participate in the carnival super jealous. Or it’s the human-Carbuncle hybrid. Well, maybe not. But it might be a pet version of Carbuncle that follows Noctis and the party around in the main game, just as his big-eared buddy trails behind him during the Carnival.

Combat, Plot, Characters Create Something Flawed, Beautiful, Fantastic
Despite it's flaws, Final Fantasy XV is a milestone achievement: not just for being completed, but for being completed with polish, aplomb and love.
  • Engaging main cast of characters
  • Fun, fast-paced combat
  • A massive, beautiful world to explore
  • The Regalia!
  • Continuous updates have addressed some shortcomings of the initial release
  • Major aspects of the story feel rushed or absent, particularly toward the end of the game
  • Stealth sequences feel out of place
