Final Fantasy 7 Remake made an incredible splash when Square Enix first revealed its existence in 2015. It’s been a whirlwind since then, especially with the revelation that the game would be split into multiple parts and would transform into more of a modern-style action RPG à la Final Fantasy XV. Since then, we’ve gotten one more trailer, focused on gameplay. And it’s been radio silence since December. Will Square Enix finally pull back the veil on FF7 Remake at E3 2016?

Final Fantasy 7 Remake News: When’s That First Part Coming?

It’s going to be a long, long time before all of Final Fantasy 7 Remake is in our hands. Each part is going to be years in the making, and there will probably be at least three parts. And we have no idea yet when any of the parts will come out. You shouldn’t even expect any of them this year: After all, Final Fantasy XV is coming out in September, and Square Enix wouldn’t release the first part of FF7 Remake in the same timeframe.

However, we may still see Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part One at E3 2016—or, later in the year, at some standalone blockbuster event like the one Square Enix just had for Final Fantasy XV. After all, the value of FF7 in marketing and attention is incredible. It’s one of the most beloved games ever made, and Square Enix got a huge amount of goodwill for finally announcing a remake—despite it being in multiple parts, which was a sheer necessity. Even if the company finally announces a real Final Fantasy XV release date at E3, and puts its focus squarely on that game, we may still get a tease or a hint of what that first part could look like.

Will the first part of the game be confined strictly to Midgar, or will it extend further? What will the gameplay actually look and feel like in practice? Will we get a glimpse of Sephiroth or JENOVA in the trailers? Have we adjusted our expectations enough that we can enjoy the game, even though it will be very different from the original Final Fantasy 7? At E3 2016, Square Enix will have another chance to make its case, and keep its instantly most-hyped-game-ever at the top of our minds. Don’t think the company will waste that opportunity.
