D3 Publisher has just announced that they will be doing a western release for the Earth Defense Force spin-off titled Earth Defense Force: World Brothers. The alien-shooter with voxel aesthetics is set to launch for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in the west in early 2021.
Describing itself in a tongue-in-cheek manner, Earth Defense Force: World Brothers is a complete visual overhaul from its franchise colleagues in that it employs a voxel art style. The events of Earth Defense Force: World Brothers happen in a parallel universe where “everything is in 3D voxel art”. Voxel Earth is breaking down into square pieces, breaking its “blocky peace” as alien invaders in their motherships have started an invasion of this square-shaped Earth. To restore it to its peaceful state, the Earth Defense Force has been dispatched all over the globe (or cube) to battle the invaders.
Earth Defense Force: World Brothers will offer nothing new or groundbreaking in terms of gameplay, as it will stick to what made previous Earth Defense Force games so successful. This means players will shoot aliens, cause chaos, rinse, and repeat. What players will see, though, is brand-new locations based on the real world that are recreated in blocky fashion. Some of these locations are from the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Egypt, and more. As for the weapons and character classes available, Earth Defense Force: World Brothers will take some classics from previous installments in the series such as the “original numbered Earth Defense Force series all the way up to Earth Defense Force 5 along with the additional spin-off Earth Defense Force series of Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon and Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain.”
Earth Defense Force: World Brothers will also add new classes that are scattered all over voxel Earth which are called “Brothers” and “Sisters”. All in all, D3 Publisher has confirmed that there will be over 100 new members that players can find all throughout the world, which makes for a myriad of combinations of skillsets, strengths, and abilities.
Earth Defense Force: World Brothers is set to release for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in Japan later this year and for the west in early 2021.
