Doom Eternal Pre-Load Time Announced Along With Updated System Requirements

Doom Eternal
Doom Eternal Slayer's Club

Only nine days left to go until we can finally play Doom Eternal. It is the perfect time to pre-load the game so that you will be ready to Rip and Tear on launch day. Id Software has announced the time when the pre-load will be made available.

PC and PlayStation 4 users can start their pre-load 48 hours before the game unlocks in their region. Pre-load for Xbox One players is available right now. The game will unlock at different times depending on the region. US players can unlock the game at 12 a.m. midnight on March 20.

Id did reveal the system requirements for the game a few days back, but then later rescinded the post. The new updated system requirements are now here. You can read them below or on the official site.

It looks like Doom Eternal optimization is quite good. These system requirements are not extremely demanding, but are not too lax either. The game will run fine on an average mid-tier PC, but can push 4k 60 FPS if you have the hardware power. But then again, we expect nothing less from Vulkan API anyway. 2016’s Doom was also one of the best-optimized games of its year.

Retail Specs Difference

As the developers updated the system requirements, the already printed retail version requirements are now out-dated. Changes have been made in both minimum and recommended requirements. The differences between them can be read below or on the official page:

Updated Minimum Spec (from what is printed on the PC box)

  • Removed Windows 8.1 as a supported operating system because it is no longer supported by AMD as of their most recent driver release.
  • Win 8.1 users with AMD GPUs will need to use driver version 19.10.1 to run the game successfully.
  • We’ve increased the resolution from 720p/60 FPS at Low Quality settings to 1080p/60 FPS at Low quality settings and have added in support for some 3GB and additional 4GB GPUs.
  • Added current gen NVIDIA GPUs that also meet the min spec performance requirements.

Updated Recommended Spec (from what is printed on the PC box)

  • We’ve increased the resolution from 1080p/60 FPS at High Quality settings to 1440p at High quality settings and have added in support for some additional GPUs at 1080p/60 FPS.
  • We’ve also reduced the system RAM requirements from 16GB to 8GB.
  • In order to hit higher performance targets, we removed the Ryzen 5 CPU and added specific i7 and Ryzen 7 CPU model numbers.
  • Recommended Specs listed on the PC box will still work as advertised
  • Added current gen NVIDIA GPUs that also meet the recommended spec performance requirements.

Added Ultra-Nightmare Spec

  • We added a “maxed out” spec for PC users

That’s not all though. Id Software likes to be thorough, so they also revealed the settings and FPS for consoles. The game support 60 FPS and HDR on every console mentioned below. Xbox One X can run the game at 4K (2160p) up-scaled from 1800p, whereas, PS4 Pro will up-sample to 4K (2160p) from 1440p. PS4 players can play Doom Eternal at native 1080p, however Xbox One will support 1080p up-sampled from 900p.

Doom Eternal will launch on March 20 for PS4, Xbox One, Stadia, and PC. The Switch port will release sometime in the future.
