Patch 2.6 PTR Blizzard

The next major content update for Diablo II: Resurrected is now available on the game’s public test realm. Patch 2.6 introduces eight new Rune Words to help you boost your equipment even more.

Rune Words, for those who are new to Diablo II: Resurrected, are combinations of runes that provide better benefits than individual runes. They’re like gems in that they are slotted into gear, but Rune Words have specific requirements.

For one, they must be set in the right order. Furthermore, you have to put them in the correct piece of gear indicated on the Rune Word itself. The item you want to put the Rune Words into should have a specific number of slots; no more, no less. And lastly, they can only be socketed to gray-text items, such as normal, low quality, superior, exceptional, elite, and ethereal. You cannot use them on magic, rare, crafted, unique, or set items.

That said, Patch 2.6 introduces eight new Rune Words. According to the dev team, most of them are focused on improving your resistances, though some can benefit certain Assassin and Druid builds.
