Destiny 2
Destiny 2 Activision / Bungie

Destiny 2 is finally out on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, three years after Bungie’s shared-world shooter series debuted on a mix of current and last-generation hardware. Fans around the globe are scouring the game, looking for secrets, new loot and interesting finds. But many are still struggling to figure out how they can unlock the second and third subclasses available to each Guardian in Destiny 2.

Unlocking additional subclasses is actually pretty easy, once you know the process. After you’re around level 10 (some people have even had success at nine), find an area with reliably high loot drop chances. Your best bet is going to be a corner of the map that regularly hosts public events or a patrol location -- like the cliffs near Devrim Kay -- where enemies spawn frequently. Then farm drops until you retrieve a Class Relic item. It’ll show up on the equipment screen as an alternate option for your current subclass; however, there are a few more steps you’ll need to complete before you can swap between them.

Now that you’ve got the Class Relic item, open the Director and swap to the Destination screen. From here, hold L2/LT to see your Milestones on the left side of the screen. See what task will increase the completion percentage for your Relic -- participation in Public Events seems to be the most common task -- and then perform that action until you’re asked to return to the Shard of the Traveler. Complete the corresponding mission, found on Earth, and you’ll unlock the second subclass for your Guardian.

The process is nearly identical for the third subclass. Class Relics won’t start dropping again until you hit level 14, and it’ll take longer for the item to be recharged, but it’s not impossible to have access to all three subclasses by the end of your first day in Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 is in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game heads to consoles on Sept. 6 before making the jump to PC in October.
