August 23 will be one of the most important days of the year for Destiny 2 fans, as Bungie has confirmed their next Destiny 2 showcase on that date, with plans to reveal what’s next for the game as it eventually heads to its penultimate expansion. The announcement was made on Twitter, and you can check it out below alongside a pretty cool yet short teaser.

This Destiny 2 showcase for August 23 will reveal more about Lightfall, the next expansion after The Witch Queen, which delivered some great twists and narrative developments in the lore and world of Destiny. So, what exactly is coming next?

(Spoilers ahead for Destiny 2 The Witch Queen)

At the end of The Witch Queen, the Guardians along with their allies managed to defeat Savathun after she managed to get hold of the Light, something which shocked everyone as it brought about Guardian versions of the Hive. In her defeat, however, her Ghost companion named Immaru managed to escape with the Light, trapping Savathun in a state of limbo as she cannot be revived without it, nor can she be killed. This means that there is a chance that Savathun will return once again, that is unless the Guardians can crush Immaru before he revives her.

However, Savathun’s defeat at the hands of the Guardians is only a temporary reprieve, as Destiny 2’s main force of evil has finally revealed itself. Calling itself The Witness, this enigmatic being is best known as the bearer of the Darkness, the antithesis of the Traveler’s Light. It seems that it will finally invade humanity’s solar system in Lightfall, while also presenting itself as a valuable ally. Beyond Light showed that the Darkness itself is invested in giving the Guardians its help via different subclasses, the first being Stasis.

Gameplay-wise, players can expect a new Darkness subclass element, as well as the usual raid and a new destination to join the fray. Exotics, gameplay changes, and other aspects will most likely be seen as well, and it all begins with the showcase on August 23.
