Destiny 2’s Season of the Drifter starts today, March 5, and brings with it some interesting new changes and a boatload of great content. Apart from the new weapons and armor and the challenging new game modes available to try, one of the changes players may be most excited for has to do with Xur, the Emissary of the Nine.
In Destiny 2 Forsaken, Xur is a vendor character that pops up in a random corner of the galaxy every week, bringing with him an exotic weapon, an exotic armor piece for each class, and a Fated Engram which contains a random piece of exotic equipment. With the special loot he has in tow, players have likened the tentacle-faced alien shop-owner to a once-a-week Santa Claus, giving gifts to all those who have enough legendary shards to spare.
Unfortunately, even after the release of the Destiny 2 Forsaken expansion, Xur’s stock only ever included exotic gear from the base game. That meant that there were dozens upon dozens of exotic gear pieces that Xur couldn’t provide. That may have been a huge letdown for the community, but Season of the Drifter finally addresses this.
In Season of the Drifter, Xur gets a whole bunch of improvements, including the capacity to start selling Forsaken exotics as part of his weekly scheduled inventory rotation. Of course, the game isn’t going to hand you all of Year Two’s exotics on a silver platter. Xur’s inventory is still randomized and you’ll still definitely be seeing a lot of Year One exotics. After the changes, players will have a chance to buy the newest exotics that launched alongside the Forsaken expansion in the Fall of 2018.
