In anticipation for the release of Destiny 2’s upcoming seasonal content release, Bungie has given the community a sneak-peek into what to expect going into the game’s sixth season. Bungie will release the new Season of the Drifter content over a period of three months, starting on March 5. The highlight of the content reveal is the new Gambit Prime game mode, which puts a competitive spin on the game’s popular Gambit PvPvE game mode.

Gambit Prime is still being run and managed by Destiny 2’s elusive Drifter character who first showed up after the Forsaken expansion. The game mode features new gameplay mechanics and rules that call for competitive degrees of teamwork and coordination. While Gambit Prime stays true to the original Gambit’s innovative PvPvE style, some exciting new changes are being implemented such as player roles, which will have players looting and shooting as one of four character roles. Each role comes packed with a unique armor set and load-out.

The Season of the Drifter also adds new items, weapons, and activities for new and old players alike. The content release includes Power Surge bounties, which are specific challenges that reward players with high-powered gear and are a great way to boost a character’s power levels on its way to the endgame. A new endgame PvE activity called The Reckoning will also be released this season. The Reckoning is a four-player matchmaking activity similar to Blind Well. There’s also lots of new loot coming players’ way, including new armor sets and weapons, such as the previously-teased exotic hand cannon, Thorn.

Following the huge success of its latest expansion, Destiny 2 continues to release seasonal content updates such as the most recent Season of the Forge. The Forsaken expansion fixed many of the game’s woes, drawing in hundreds of thousands of new and old players alike, more than tripling the game’s concurrent player-base. With the release of Season of the Forge, the second DLC to be released after the Forsaken update, players are happier than ever with the sci-fi looter shooter.
