Publisher 505 Games and developer Kojima Productions will soon be making the first “strand type game” (better known as Death Stranding) available for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Filled with a star-studded cast of Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, and Lindsay Wagner, Death Stranding tells a story set in the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic United States wherein the remaining small pockets of humanity are isolated from each other. Players assume control of Sam Bridges, a porter (or for those living in the present, a delivery guy) for a company called Bridges. Sam is tasked with delivering essential cargo for KNOTs, or isolated cities across the United States. His mission is filled with danger as the barren landscape is teeming with threats called BTs (Beached Things) which are otherworldly creatures brought about by the apocalyptic “Death Stranding”. These BTs cannot be seen by the naked eye, but can be sensed if a connection is formed with a “Bridge Baby” - a premature baby signifying the closeness of the state of life and death. All porters are equipped with a Bridge Baby that will help them survive their travels.

Released late last year for the PlayStation 4, Death Stranding was a highly anticipated game due to it being the first project of the legendary game director Hideo Kojima since his departure from Konami in 2015. It was met with commercial success, but its critical reception was polarized. Many saw the story to be too long and convoluted and the gameplay to be nothing but a “walking simulator” (which then spawned multiple memes and parody games on PC such as Man Standing and Walking Simulator). Critics, however, praised its graphics, soundtrack, and voice acting as its strongest suits.

Death Stranding's PC release will see additional features such as an uncapped frame rate, a photo mode, and support for monitors with ultra-wide resolutions. It will also include cross-over content from Valve’s Half-Life series. There are also pre-purchase bonuses such as HD wallpapers and multiple in-game cosmetics that are available.

Death Stranding launches for the PC today, July 14.
