The on-going COVID-19 pandemic is having a big effect on the gaming industry. You can add one more title to the long list of delayed games: Chivalry 2. The highly anticipated sequel to the original Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is delayed until next year, and the exact release date wasn’t announced.

The reason for the delay is what you would expect. Game development has been slowed down due to the pandemic. However, that’s not the only reason. The developers at Torn Banner Studios want to release the best version of the game possible. Torn Banner also decided to increase the amount of content in the base game. The new content that was supposed to come as post-launch support will now be available on day one. However, you still have to wait for the horses.

“As we settle in to working together in new ways in a COVID-19 world, our development timelines are shifting to utilize this additional time to better meet our core goals for Chivalry 2, as well as allowing us to incorporate several quality of life improvements and also include what was originally post-launch content, in the release,” the announcement said. “This means more maps and game features will be playable at launch than we had originally scoped. Horses however will be coming to Chivalry 2 after launch. They need a bit more time in the training stables.”

That’s not all, as the delay will also affect the beta that was supposed to take place this Summer. As one would expect, the beta has also been postponed and will take place sometime in the future. More information about both the game and the beta is coming soon.

There is still some good news, though. Chivalry 2 will now launch on all platforms at the same time. The game will be playable on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Crossplay support between all platforms has also been confirmed. This means you won’t have to worry about a divided player base.
