Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is officially a standalone game on Xbox One for the iffy price of $39.99. Following leaks late last week, the game has officially arrived on the Xbox store and at brick-and-mortar retailers.
Just like the Infinite Warfare pack-in release and the PS4 standalone before it, this special version of the 2007 game features a graphically enhanced version of the Modern Warfare single-player campaign as well as the vanilla suite of multiplayer maps. The Variety Map Pack DLC has also been remastered for those who want it, and, coincidentally or not, it’s on sale for about $10 for Xbox Live Gold members. It’s also worth noting that extra weapons and maps have been added during limited holiday events as well.
While that may sound appetizing at face value, the standalone game’s pricing has caused some controversy over the past few weeks. Modern Warfare Remastered was originally released as a pack-in with deluxe editions of Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and it still exists in that form today for $50. That being said, is it truly worth it to pay $40 for one game when you can buy two for just $10 more? Most consumers were expecting a price closer to $20, but that was never Activision’s reality.
Given Sony’s partnership with the Call Of Duty brand, this Xbox Modern Warfare release arrives one month after its PS4 counterpart with little to no fanfare. Because the game was just put on sale, it may take a while for some retailers to catch up. Amazon, for example, has yet to post a product page.
The only question left about Modern Warfare Remastered pertains to the standalone PC version. So far we’ve heard nothing about it, so will it release at all? Will it quietly make its Steam debut later today? We’re not sure. We’d expect an eventual release given that the game already exists on PC, but no confirmations have been made at this time.
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is available as a standalone or in the Legacy Edition of Infinite Warfare on PS4 and Xbox One. It’s currently pack-in only on PC.
