Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered just got infused with some holiday cheer in a recent update, but a reddit leak of the latest PC update files suggests more content could be on the way. DLC maps and franchise-favorite weapons are seemingly being considered for the future.

The Modern Warfare Remastered holiday content drop just added the final six multiplayer maps that were included in the original game, but, as fans of the series know, there’s still a gap in the lineup. Shortly after the game’s release, a Variety Map Pack, featuring Chinatown, Broadcast, Killhouse and Creek, was published as DLC. Buried deep in the latest update’s code, references to all four of those names were found in a video file format. The suggestion is that those extra maps are being polished for current-gen.

As for weapons, those come in two different flavors. The models aren’t much more than shadows, but it appears a hatchet and sword melee option might eventually be brought online. To augment that, many of the weapons from last month’s classic weapons leak have been removed. However, two guns that remain in place are the new auto-shotgun Kamchatka-12 and Modern Warfare 2’s XM-LAR. The suspicion is that testing may still be underway for these. You can watch gameplay of the Kamchatka-12 in action here.

What’s particularly interesting about this leak is that it directly contradicts what the development team at Raven Software has previously said, especially regarding weapons. At YouTube events the studio mentioned that cosmetics were the focus for Modern Warfare Remastered, and that promise continued this month. Adding anything more, it was argued, would be a breach of balance to the original concept.

With regard to the Variety Map Pack, everything was equally non-committal as of September. Representatives mentioned the maps may be looked into based on player feedback after launch, but it seemed nothing had been solidified.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered predictably hasn’t received quite as much love as Infinite Warfare, but it’s surprising that Raven continues to tinker with new content now that the mainstays are in place. As with any leak, this news should be taken with a grain of salt. While the files are indeed genuine, that doesn’t guarantee they’ll ever be finished or added to the retail game.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is included with the Legacy Edition of Infinite Warfare across PS4, Xbox One and PC.
