For the longest time, PlayStation is one to keep their games exclusive to their platform, and this required many to get their different consoles in order to enjoy these games. However, while many see this as a business decision or a form of capitalism, PlayStation and Sony's executives have recently addressed the exclusivity of select titles.
They also revealed that, in the many exclusive games they had, they also previously considered bringing them to other platforms, but have decided to waive some off due to specific considerations and reasons.
PS Exclusives to Other Platforms? Here's What Execs Say
In a recent Fireside chat featuring Sony Interactive Entertainment president Hideaki Nishino and Studio Business Group head Hermen Hulst, both executives addressed the significant absence of PlayStation-exclusive games on other platforms. Here, they said that they are "thoughtful" in bringing more of what PlayStation users enjoy exclusively to other consoles.
"Thoughtful" for them means that they are actively considering several of their exclusive releases to make their way to other gaming platforms as there are many players on other gaming devices that want to experience what is available on the PlayStation. However, this "thoughtful" sentiment is not enough for users to get what they want, especially as it is known that not many PS exclusives made it outside their system.
Hulst emphasized that while the company is running different thought processes and decision-making into possible PlayStation exclusives making it to other systems, there is still a lot to consider. The executive claimed that PlayStation is "taking a very measured, deliberate approach" to what experiences arrive on other platforms.
This follows the recent changes from their rival, Microsoft, who has already begun their new approach in the industry as a games distributor, with more Xbox exclusives making it to the PlayStation.
Will We See More PlayStation Exclusives on Third Parties?
According to GameRant's report, while it is possible to bring PlayStation-exclusive games to other systems, the company wants to be sure that players will get the best experiences they would typically enjoy once they transition to third parties.
The executives emphasized the company's "mindfulness" in considering which games may be ported to other consoles or platforms, with the company not jumping ahead in its development to bring these titles to others.
As per Hulst, there is a massive consideration for single-player PlayStation games as they want these to deliver the best possible experiences for players when it comes to third-party hardware. It is important to note that most of the PlayStation exclusives that arrived in third parties centered on porting it to the PC, but not for rival consoles like the Xbox or the Nintendo Switch.
For now, the sentiments of the executives did not answer the question of whether or not PlayStation exclusives are coming to other gaming platforms or systems. But it does show that Sony and PlayStation are actively considering it.
