Borderlands 3 is inviting all Vault Hunters to band together for a single purpose: to help Maurice the Saurian with his research on the strange ways of humanity. In Maurice's Community Carnage Challenges, players are asked to collectively complete different challenges. In return, they get to unlock a wildlife-themed batch of cosmetic Vault Hunter Heads that the whole community can enjoy.

There's a total of four community challenge events with the first one starting on October 14. The succeeding ones then unlock on the following Thursdays. The good thing about the challenges is that there’s no need to look for an NPC to get them. The objectives are presented each week in different ways and all are counted behind the scenes.

Once one of Maurice's Community Carnage Challenges has been completed successfully, a SHiFT code will be released that when activated, give players the new Vault Hunter Head reward. SHiFT codes can be redeemed through the website here, through the Gearbox SHiFT site, or the in-game Social menu in the game. Each code can only be redeemed once (1) per SHiFT account.

First Challenge

With that out of the way, the first is Challenge 1: Traunt’s Bloodied Bloodline. In this one, it seems that Maurice needs some Traunt Family DNA for research, of course! The goal is to kill:

  • Captain Traunt
    • Can be found on Athenas.
  • General Traunt
    • Can be found on Nekrotafeyo.
  • Captain Haunt
    • Can be found in Heck
    • Only accessible with an activated Bloody Harvest event through the main menu.

This being a challenge, clearly, there’s a catch. To ensure that Maurice's organ stash is overflowing, the community needs to kill them for a collective total of 500,000 times.

What do you think? Are you ready to take on the challenges? Do you think the community can complete all of them?

Borderlands 3 was released in 2019 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Stadia. Versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S were made available in 2020. While the game is a sequel to Borderlands 2 , it is the fourth game in the Borderlands franchise.
