What do you get when you mix horror and the Wild West? You have the stealth FPS game Blood West. It lets you explore the twisted wild west environments, scavenging for supplies, hunting deadly monstrosities, and of course, gaining the power to face terrifying bosses. The game is now available on Steam Early Access, offered at 20% off until February 18.

Blood West is inspired by games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R., System Shock, and Deus Ex, to name a few. It's also largely influenced by Hunt: Showdown. To get an idea of what the game is like, you can watch the gameplay showcase below:

Features of the game include:

  • Experience a non-stop action-focused velocity shooter.
    • The game is best taken slow and thoughtfully.
    • Do some sneaking, survey the surroundings, and plan your attack.
    • Only engage in combat when you have the advantage.
  • Combat mechanics are more complex than one might expect.
    • Enemies have weak spots like the head and can take a lot of damage before dying.
    • Be sure to exploit their vulnerabilities.
  • Weapons have different stats.
    • Guns looted from enemies or found discarded somewhere are old and rusty and won't perform great.
    • There are different types of ammo, and some are more effective against certain enemy types than others.
  • The Revenant Gunslinger
    • As your character gains experience and levels up, they get some skill points that can be distributed unlocking useful perks in the character screen.
  • Different perk + weapon combinations allow for very different approaches to the game.
    • Remember to try different play styles.

Early Access

The team at Hyperstrange shared in a post that the reason why they decided to have Blood West go through Early Access is because of their past experiences, particularly getting the Steam Community involved in the development process.

While the team already has a vision of what the complete game is, they know that they can improve it more by getting feedback from players. The team revealed that they expect around six to eight months more of development. Players can also expect to get two content updates.

That said, here are the minimum PC system requirements of the game:

  • OS: Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-7500
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M
  • Storage: 2 GB available space
