The Best Kept Secrets For Avoiding Tilt In League of Legends

Playing League of Legends can be stressful. Sometimes you just can’t stop losing, no matter how hard you try. I’ve been there, last season I had a losing streak so long that I went from Gold 1 to Silver 3. Day after day, I’d log into League and play games. I was tilted, my mind wasn’t in the game and I was just playing to play. After hitting my lowest rank since I started League , I had to reevaluate what I was doing. With a few techniques, I was able to get out of my losing funk and climb all the way to Platinum.

Play During The Day

I used to play either in the late afternoon or at night, where I’d run into all the kids who had gotten off from school. Sadly, League of Legends is still a game populated with younger people who were raised on the internet. The easiest way to spot a 12-year-old kid is to see who’s typing “gg” at 4 minutes. I found playing during the morning can drastically improve the teammates you’re paired with. Players who are on League during school hours are usually older and tend to flame less, no matter what ELO you are at.

I’ve read a lot of guides on how to avoid tilt written by higher tier players. They have never seen the trenches of low ELO, and have no idea the horrors a grade-school Silver can spew from their keyboard. When you play League can be just as important as how you play League . You’ll still be paired with plenty of feeders and flamers, but that’s where the next tip comes in.

Ignore the Feeders and Flamers

I understand, you need to tell your Karthus that going 0/5 in lane makes him bad, but hear me out. Players who get yelled at tend to play worse. Karthus is a late game champion, and with enough scaling or mid-game kills, he can do some serious damage. If you keep typing in all chat “why do I keep getting feeder noobs,” Karthus might just go on tilt and feed even more.

Players often don’t remember that they are playing with actual people. Just because someone is playing as the incarnation of death itself, doesn’t mean he’s actually an emotionless necromancer. Last night I played a game where I got countered in lane and went 0/3 within 15 minutes. Our Ezreal told me I should kill myself, and then proceeded to remind me at least once a minute. We lost that game, and Ezreal blamed me for it.

When you get players like Ezreal, mute them. It’s amazing how much you can improve when someone isn’t calling you the scum of the earth. That mute button on the other side of the player portrait is my favorite ability in the game. If you’re playing below Gold, your teammates have nothing useful to say anyways. I love the game League of Legends ; sometimes I just hate its community.
