Inti Creates has just announced that their shoot em-up, side-scrolling, action title Azure Striker Gunvolt 3, the long-awaited sequel for the series, will soon be releasing for the Nintendo Switch.

The announcement regarding Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 came during the online indie game event Bitsummit Gaiden. Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 follows its predecessors Azure Striker Gunvolt & Azure Striker Gunvolt 2, which were both released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2014 and 2016, respectively. Gunvolt 3 will see the return of Keiji Inafune, the action supervisor for the first two games along with Yoshihisa Tsuda, who served as director for the two titles. Currently, it has been confirmed that work on the title has only just begun. A new character has also been unveiled along with the game’s announcement, whose name is Kirin: “a shrine maiden with a Septimal power that allows her to steal the abilities of others.” She is also equipped with enchanted talismans and a sword crafted from a pewter staff.

Inafune spoke more regarding the newly added character saying that “Her name is Kirin, and I believe she is an incredibly charming character. As you can see, her artwork is very cute and well done. When you see her in action and cutting down enemies, I think many people will really come to like her.”

Despite his superb work on the Dead Rising and Onimusha series, Inafune is now most known for his headlining of the Kickstarter disaster that is Mighty No. 9. He has also worked as a producer for a vast number of Mega Man titles, which should speak volumes regarding his experience in the specific genre; however, fans of the Azure Gunvolt series are still wary. Inafune concluded his message by saying, “I am extremely happy to be able to announce both the game and my involvement after keeping fans waiting for so long. It will still be a while yet, but I sincerely hope that Gunvolt 3 will be able to meet everyone’s expectations. Please look forward to it!”

More news will come soon regarding Azure Striker Gunvolt 3, and you can find out more here. For those who want to get into the series now, Azure Striker Gunvolt and Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 are currently available for the Nintendo 3DS, PC, PlayStation 4, and the Nintendo Switch.
