The road towards the first handheld gaming console from Microsoft's Xbox may be underway as new leaks have revealed the ASUS ROG Ally 2 "Xbox Edition" that is reportedly joining the release soon.
This new handheld would be similar to the regular release of the ASUS ROG Ally 2, the second-generation handheld of the lineup, but this time, featuring an Xbox button.
There is still massive anticipation on when Microsoft would release a portable of its Xbox gaming console to the world, particularly as competitors in the market are already acting fast with new PC gaming handhelds.
ASUS ROG Ally 2 Xbox Edition Leaks
New leaks have seemingly confirmed that ASUS and Xbox's collaboration is the real deal as, after teasing it earlier this year, there is already an FCC certification for the next generation ROG Ally 2.
Following this certification, leakers have also gotten a hold of the new portable gaming console, the ASUS ROG Ally 2 "Xbox Edition."
The photos show different angles of the new ROG Ally 2 Xbox Edition, coming in a black colorway that supplements the white version of the console. While there is not much change from the ROG Ally's first release to the ROG Ally 2, this Xbox Edition features more ergonomic handles that are modeled after the Xbox Wireless Controller.
Additionally, the ASUS ROG Ally 2 Xbox Edition also features a special Xbox button, but its main function remains unknown. Apart from this, it was reported by GameRant that this collaboration console would be powered by the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme APU chipset.
Handheld Collaboration Coming Soon
ASUS and Xbox's collaboration was only revealed earlier this year, and this came as a surprise to the industry as it was expected that Microsoft would create their standalone handheld like PlayStation's Portal.
Reports and leaks claimed that this ASUS ROG Ally 2 Xbox Edition would be powered by the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor, and it would also feature 64GB of memory and a 7-inch 120Hz display. It is expected to still be powered by Windows 11, and since it is a ROG Ally 2 at heart, it would still have access to PC and Android titles via Steam and GOG.
There are still no reports or official confirmations regarding the launch date of the ASUS ROG Ally 2, as well as its Xbox Edition, but it is expected that both would be available together at launch. Moreover, there is also no information regarding what the Xbox button will deliver, or if it will get the same operating system and user interface found on the Xbox Series S and X.
ASUS and Xbox also have no official pricing yet for either the ROG Ally 2 or the Xbox Edition version of the upcoming lineup.
