Discovery Tour: Viking Age is all set to be released on October 19. This is a free add-on for those who already have Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. It offers players a new way to explore and learn more about the game world.

Discovery Tour is an educational mode first introduced back in Assassin's Creed: Origins. Notable features include different avatars and no combat mechanics or damage. It was offered as an add-on for those who have the base game and is also available for purchase as a standalone for PC.

The first one was Ancient Egypt and allowed players to freely roam on a map of ancient Egypt and learn more about the history of the kingdom. It was followed by Ancient Greece, the add-on for Assassin's Creed: Odyssey. This had 30 tours that covered five different themes.

Unlike other Discovery Tours, this new one will be available for consoles, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna by early 2022.

Much like the two before it, Discovery Tour: Viking Age was designed with input not only from historians but also archaeologists. It transforms the world of the game into something non-violent to offer an educational experience. Here, players can explore and learn about the places, people, and cultures of ninth-century Norway and England.

The tour takes a different approach when it comes to the learning experience. Rather than having guided tours, players take on the role of different characters and go on quests. This should bring them much closer to the material.

As players follow the narrative and complete objectives, Viking Age gives players the chance to interact with the Discovery Sites where each focuses on an element of the culture and traditions of Vikings, as well as Anglo-Saxons, during the Viking Age. The Discovery Sites feature images of items from the collections of the museum partners that include:

  • Hampshire Cultural Trust (UK)
  • Preston Park Museum & Grounds (UK)
  • York Archaeological Trust (UK)
  • The British Library (UK)
  • Réunion des Musées Nationaux (France)
  • National Museum of Denmark

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Amazon Luna, and Stadia.
