Amazon has already successfully changed the way most of America shops for various retail products, but now the company is taking bold steps towards changing consumer grocery shopping habits as well.

In an announcement on the company website, Amazon has introduced its customers to a new kind of grocery store it will be launching in 2017. The name of the store will be Amazon Go and the defining feature of the store is the fact that customers can walk in, gather the things they want to purchase in their carts, and then walk out, without having to stand around in the checkout line. While almost anyone can see the benefit of such an offering, for those of us juggling careers, families, and social engagements, this idea seems like a dream come true.

How Does Amazon Go Work?

So how will it work? According to Amazon, customers will download the Amazon Go app, which is connected with the individual’s Amazon account. When entering the store, customers log into the app and then through the wonder of Amazon’s “Just Walk Out” technology, anything that customer takes from the shelf and places in their cart is added to a virtual cart connected to his or her Amazon account. If a customer returns an item to the shelf, it no longer appears in his or her cart. Customers can see an ongoing tally of items and their prices within the app as well.

As soon as the shopping is complete, a customer can simply walk out the door. A few moments later, his or her Amazon account will be charged for the purchases. Imagine a world where grocery shopping is this easy. It's a good time to be alive, people.

Amazon Go Grocery Store Locations: When And Where Will The First One Open?”

So at this point you are probably wondering, when exactly does Amazon Go launch and where will the stores be located? Amazon is easing slowly into this experiment. The company has been working on the concept for four years and now feel it is prepared to give the Amazon Go store a shot. The first Amazon Go grocery store is scheduled to open in early 2017 and will be located at 2131 7th Ave, Seattle, WA, on the corner of 7th Avenue and Blanchard Street.

There is no additional information about when other Amazon Go stores might be launched. Despite not living in the Seattle area, I for one cannot wait to see how the whole Shop and Leave concept pans out.
