‘Agents Of SHIELD’ Season 4 Fall Finale Includes New Marvel Teaser, And It’s Not ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’

Marvel has used Agents of SHIELD to promote other MCU productions in the past, including Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron, and this year’s fall finale will be no different. Natalia Cordova, who plays Yo-Yo Rodriguez on SHIELD, told fans on Twitter to stick around after tonight’s episode for a special Marvel teaser.

Except this time, it doesn’t look like Marvel will be debuting footage from an upcoming movie. Cordova shot down speculation it was new Spider-Man: Homecoming footage. Considering Marvel just released a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer earlier this week, it’s also much more likely the teaser could be regarding something on the small screen.

The first option is exciting footage from the rest of Season 4, or a special announcement about Ghost Rider’s further involvement in the MCU. However, the upcoming shows with the most hype on Marvel’s docket are The Inhumans and Iron Fist. The former isn’t a direct spinoff of SHIELD, but directly relates to the arcs SHIELD has introduced.

Loads of Iron Fist footage was previewed at New York Comic Con in October, but fans have yet to see anything Inhumans -related. There are few details about the series, aside from the fact it revolves around the Inhuman Royal Family and will release in September 2017. Another option is The Defenders, which has been filming for awhile now in New York.

The Inhumans TV series was only announced last month, so it does seem a bit early for a teaser including new footage. On the other hand, the Iron Fist March release date is fastly approaching. Today, Marvel released brand new Iron Fist photos. This weekend, Marvel also officially announced Luke Cage Season 2. At this point, it seems more likely Marvel will keep the Netflix hype rolling. Personally, I'm hoping for The Defenders.

Agents of SHIELD Season 4 episode 8, “The Laws of Inferno Dynamics,” airs Dec. 6 at 10 p.m. on ABC.
