Is Tyrell real? We might find out in Mr. Robot Season 2 episode 12. USA Network

Answers were traded for new questions in the Mr. Robot Season 2 finale. We know Tyrell is alive. Not just alive in Elliot’s mind, but actually a real, living, breathing person. He’s also been in contact with Angela, who appears to know much more about Stage 2 than she let on. The FBI also knows a lot about fsociety and has a shitload of evidence on Darlene and Cisco. Did I mention Whiterose and Tyrell want to blow up E Corp’s largest building in New York?

That’s not all. The Season 2 finale post-credits scene took things to another level. As it turns out, Mobley and Trenton are still alive. They’re somewhere far from home staying under the radar.

“What if we could generate the keys,” Trenton says to Mobley while the two sip soda on break outside their new job, Fry’s Electronics. “I’ve taken enough risk for one lifetime,” Mobley tells Trenton adamantly. “Please just look at it,” she pleads.“If what I discovered is real, do you know what that means? We could potentially undo this whole thing, put everything back the way it was.”

That’s when Leon show’s up. It’s the first time we’ve seen him since jail, when he went ninja on four inmates threatening Elliot. He approaches Trenton and Mobley calm and slow. “Do you have the time?” he asks.

So what could all of this mean? As you know, the 5/9 hack didn’t actually destroy all of E Corps financial data. That’s what Stage 2 is for-- to destroy all hard copies. But the digital records aren’t completely gone either. All the data is encrypted -- a near impossible feat to reverse. That is, unless you have the key.

[Spoilers S2E12] What was being discussed in the post-credits scene from MrRobot

Elliot spoke of a key last season regarding the 5/9 data encryption. He said the key itself would self-destruct after the encryption is complete, but if you can retrieve the source code, you could generate the key again. This could be what Trenton is speaking of and wants Mobley to take a look at. With the key, the 5/9 hack could theoretically be reversed.

It’s no coincidence Leon shows up as they are discussing ‘the key.’ He wouldn't have bothered to drop a Whiterose ‘time’ line if he was there to kill, so he’s probably there to protect them from the FBI. It’s also broad daylight and there’s no advantage to killing them, especially since Dom isn’t right on their tails. Clearly the FBI didn’t have very much on Mobley if he was released from custody.

Leon keeping an eye on Mobley and Trenton could mean Whiterose needs their help down the line. Finding the encryption key might even be part of Stage 3. E Corp has invested so heavily in E Coin and if the records were to come back, people would want their cash and E Coin value would fall. If finding the key is Whiterose’s Stage 3, it would completely destroy public confidence in E Corp. E Coin is E Corp's second head created in the wake of 5/9. Without E Coin and without physical records, E Corp would have nothing left. Whiterose could have her way with Washington Township without Phillip Price's oversight. This could be why China was so eager to loan E Corp $3 trillion in the first place.

What do you think? Did Leon come fill Mobley and Trenton in on Stage 3? Let us know in the comments below!
