We finally have the official launch date for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. The game is coming to PC and Xbox Series X/S on September 13. The game was supposed to be released in 2021 but was delayed to spring 2022.

In a post, the team at Fatshark revealed that the additional extension is to make sure that they would be able to deliver the best four-player co-op experience. More information is set to be revealed soon.

The game was announced in July 2020, followed by a gameplay trailer in December of that year. That trailer revealed the use of weapons like the chainsword and Lasgun against hordes of Poxwalkers. In the middle of 2021, Fatshark revealed that they were moving the release date from 2021 to the spring of 2022 to offer the best game possible. The team added that developing a game during the pandemic was a challenge for everyone. The additional time was hoped to give the team more focus on the level of quality and invest in more systems.

In the game, the depths of the hive have the seeds of corruption which could threaten an overwhelming tide of darkness. A heretical cult known as the Admonition hopes to seize control of the planet Atoma Prime and lay waste to everyone on it. It’s now up to players and their allies in the Inquisition to root out the enemy before the city succumbs to Chaos.

Features of the game include:

  • Co-op Adventure
    • Survive the overwhelming tides of enemies with up to 3 friends.
    • Team composition and collaboration are important and determine whether or not you get to secure victory for the God-Emperor.
  • Combat Evolved
    • Building on the highly-praised melee combat of Vermintide 2, the game introduces deep and balanced gameplay.
    • Find the right mix between melee and ranged combat as you go through a slew of enemies.
  • An Unexpected Journey
    • Experience the dystopian and violent world of the Warhammer 40,000 universe where players take on the part of a convict turned agent.
    • Players serve the zealous Inquisition in its mission to exterminate Chaos cultist corruption.
  • Your Character, Your Playstyle
    • Players can choose their class and customize their skillset and load-out.
    • Upgrade gear, customize the character’s looks and prove your worth to the elusive Inquisitor.
