The cast of The Walking Dead is always excited to return to the set. The Walking Dead Season 8 is no different.

Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick on the show, recently teased to Entertainment Weekl y what’s to come in the series. The Walking Dead Season 8 premiere will mark the show’s 100th episode, so the showrunners likely have something big planned to commemorate the occasion.

“It’s been a lot of placing the chess pieces and positioning and introducing key players in this landscape,” Lincoln told EW . “And I think now we get to start really playing the game. The game is afoot, as they say.”

We’re not quite sure how the episode will begin, but we’re hoping the season will start on a positive note. Yeah, Alexandria, the Hilltop, Kingdom, Oceanside, Sanctuary and the Scavengers are at war, but they also have to continue living. It’d be too much for the show to start on an intensely emotional note two years in a row. It’s bad enough we saw Glenn and Abraham murdered in a brutal way.

The show will likely featured a significant time jump, considering the story needs Maggie to lead the Hilltop into battles. Maggie can’t do that if she’s several months pregnant or had a baby very recently. Negan also doesn’t know Maggie is pregnant, and that’s something he’d definitely use against Rick. Negan took a liking to Judith when he visited Rick’s home in Alexandria. We also saw Negan’s wife Sherry constantly take trips to the Sanctuary doctor to see if she was pregnant. It seems like being a father might be something Negan wants.

Still, anything can happen in The Walking Dead. For all we know, the episode starts off with Eugene releasing an army of metal walkers on Alexandria’s gate while Negan tortures Carl. Really, how is Carl still alive? The kid should’ve died a long time ago, but he somehow manages to survive two gunshot wounds.
