Robert Kirkman finally addressed why he named his infamous The Walking Dead comic book character Negan.

Long story short, Kirkman explained to The Talking Dead he wanted a name that would be intimidate his readers. He started calling the character Nagus, thinking it was a made up name, but found out it already existed in another franchise.

"I just wanted the name to sound negative in some way, so I was calling him 'Nagus' for a long time, which is just a word I thought I pulled from thin air," Kirkman said. "But apparently that's the Ferengi leader in Star Trek: Deep Space 9 , so I was like, 'Well I can't call him Nagus.' So then I was like, 'Okay, Negan, that sounds fine.'"

There is a certain gravitas that comes with Negan. Even if you think his name is stupid, you definitely wouldn’t make fun of Negan to his face. The guy would whip out Lucille and crush your skull without a second thought.

As for the show, Kirkman also teased during The Talking Dead the mysterious figure lurking around Alexandria. We only saw the person’s boots and hat, but just a glimpse was enough to show fans there’s always a new threat lurking in the shadows.

“I really wish I could tell you. All I can say is, those boots, you definitely recognize those from earlier, they’re connected to that boat scene. That’s a big part of what we’re dealing with when we come back next half of the season. So we’ll be, ya know, revealing that soon,” Kirkman said.

It’s too early to see The Whisperers, so we wouldn’t be surprised if the mystery person was a part of a new community, like the Oceanside crew. Who do you think this stranger might be? Do you think this person will help Alexandria in the war to come? Let us know in the comments below.

The Walking Dead Season 7 returns February 2017 to AMC.
