More than 14 minutes of new Vampyr gameplay footage debuted on Friday, from a pre-alpha version of the game, giving fans a chance to see the same Vampyr content Dontnod showed to the press during gamescom.

As you’d expect, our first extended look at Vampyr focuses on the overall scope of the game more than any specific character or mechanic. Everything from this week’s trailer is seen through the eyes of the game’s protagonist, Dr. Jonathan Reid, but the trailer doesn’t seem to focus on introducing our antihero. Instead, we get an early look at Dontnod’s version of London, the dialogue system that will be featured heavily in Vampyr and a handful of seemingly important characters from the upcoming action-RPG.

The new Vampyr video also offers an early glimpse at the combat systems Dontnod is planning for its first action-RPG, including some of the brutal magic at Dr. Reid’s disposal. Apparently, vampires in Vampyr are capable of more than the standard blood drinking and bat transformations that fans of the genre have come to expect. You’ll still have the option to bite the neck of pretty much anyone in Vampyr, including the nondescript NPCs used to populate the city, but that won’t be Dr. Reid’s only means of taking down a target.

For a closer look at Vampyr, take some time to watch the new pre-alpha gameplay video from Dontnod. Then head down to the comments section and let us know what you’re hoping to see in Vampyr when the action-RPG heads to PC and consoles next year.

Vampyr is in development for PS4, Xbox One and PC. The game debuts sometime in 2017.
