The Unearned Hype Podcast: Episode 19 - E3 Predictions And Dream Announcements

E3 2016

We’re back with another episode of The Unearned Hype Podcast !

This week is our first (and hopefully not last) iteration of what will probably become an annual tradition: E3 predictions. With the industry’s biggest trade show just around the corner, and not much else going on in the news, Phil and I offer a few thoughts on the games and platforms expected to make a splash next week. We also offer a few predictions for major players, like Ubisoft, Sony and Nintendo, and a few dream announcements we’re hoping to see/hear before E3 comes to a close on June 15.

The show begins with our thoughts on the Big Three. There are still lots of questions surrounding Microsoft’s annual stage presentation and E3 presence. An appearance from Project Scorpio -- and hopefully an actual product name -- seems pretty likely. And it’s probably safe to assume there will be a few first-party titles, like State of Decay 2, on-hand. But we have a much better idea, and considerably more excitement, for the line-ups we’re expecting from Sony and Nintendo. The former should have more footage, and maybe a few release dates, for the cornucopia of new projects unveiled last summer. And I’m pretty sure security will have to escort Phil out of the Nintendo booth this year now that two different Pokemon games are expected on the show floor.

Console manufacturers won’t be the only companies at the show though. We also spend a few minutes exploring our expectations for major publishers, like EA and Ubisoft, and share our thoughts on a handful of titles (including Assassin’s Creed: Origins) that are all but guaranteed to be announced next week. We also spend a few minutes discussing Square Enix. It’s mostly just us hoping they don’t announce another game that won’t be ready for 15 years. But we’re also hoping to see the unannounced Avengers game outed earlier this year.

We’ve included YouTube and SoundCloud archives of this week's show and we’ll continue to do so with each new episode going forward. You can also watch us record the show every week on Twitch. We usually record at 1 p.m. EDT every Wednesday, barring scheduling conflicts. You can even listen to The Unearned Hype Podcast on iTunes (reviews appreciated!).
