We finally have a launch date for Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher. This upcoming monster training simulation game is arriving in North America and South America, October 20, on Nintendo Switch as a digital download.

The game is a mix of two renowned franchises: the multimedia icon and pop culture sensation Ultraman and the beloved game series Monster Rancher.

A new trailer has been released for the game and you can watch it below:

In Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher, players take on the role of an up-and-coming rancher to breed, befriend, and train Ultra Kaiju for competition. The game features at least 200 kinds of Kaiju and combination variations to collect. The Kaiju can be generated using Keywords or NFC-enabled devices. By the way, Bandai Namco revealed in a statement that one of the Kaiju regeneration functions, “Search for music,” won’t be available in the version released for North and South America.

Players can also combine or even synthesize monsters to create new-looking Kaiju. Aside from the unique movements from Ultra Kaiju not typically seen in past works, the game sets the stage for epic clashes of monstrous proportions that brings to mind the classic Ultraman bouts.

A Quick Background

About the two franchises used, the first is the Ultraman franchise which had its start with the release in 1966 of Ultra Q. The one that many fans are familiar with is likely Ultraman, released as well in 1966. The reason for this was the one that had the actual Ultraman character.

Meanwhile, the first Monster Rancher game came out in 1997 and since then has grown into 14 titles; the game is often compared to Pokémon. There are indeed similarities considering that the goal is also to have monsters fight in tournaments. The main difference is that it isn't about collecting monsters, but more on simulated animal breeding in-game. That means players have to raise a monster, train it, and make sure that it’s ready when the fight starts. Monster Rancher is available on various platforms, such as PC, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS.
