The video streaming market will continue testing to see where its saturation point is as media giant Sony unveiled its 4K streaming service, dubbed Ultra, at CES 2016. Ultra aims to be the hub for 4K movie streaming and purchasing.
"Ultra will be a premium digital service, delivering high-quality content on the best 4K Bravia TVs," Sony President and COO Mike Fasulo told the audience during his presentation. According to Fasulo, Sony’s Ultra service features a “gorgeous user interface,” a wide selection of 4K movies to stream or purchase and that previously purchased 4K movies by the user will work with Ultra.
Fasulo appeared to suggest movies available on Ultra will be limited to new and previously released titles exclusively from Sony and its partners. The move to create a high-definition streaming service, Fasulo said, was a natural progression for Sony since its dealt with 4K cameras, TV and video for several years.
“Sony knows HDR from the lens to the living room," Fasulo said in a statement. "We were among the first to use cameras that film in 4K and HDR and have been on the forefront of offering consumers technology that can bring the stunning experience of 4K and HDR into their homes,”
