In about a month, we’re going to be treated again with the spectacle from the 2020 Summer Olympics. It’s going to be held in Tokyo and with the pandemic still hanging on everyone’s heads, there are now those calling for its cancellation.

Regardless of what’s going to happen, one thing is certain. The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games: The Official Video Game is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia for $39.99.

The game offers players of all ages to take on 18 arcade-style Olympic competitions. These include the likes of the 100-meter dash, basketball, BMX, long jump, sevens rugby, sports climbing, and tennis. Making the gaming experience authentic is that the events are held in realistic replicas of actual venues in Tokyo. Players can try out the events and compete with family and friends in solo and online modes. There are also other modes like training and ranked competitions.

A feature that everyone can enjoy is the avatar creator that allows players to create and customize the Olympian of their dreams. You can be an astronaut who takes part in running events or a pirate who can do long jumps. There are more than 50 costumes to choose from, along with the official mascot Miraitowa and Sonic the Hedgehog.

In a press statement, VP Commercial Integration at IOC Television and Marketing Services Elisabeth Allaman revealed that the Olympics has a long history of having official video games and this latest one is sure to make fans happy. She added that the partnership with Sega has allowed the game to attract not only existing fans but even new ones.

Meanwhile, SEGA of America President and COO Ian Curran shared that the company has long been making games that are family-friendly, fun, and inclusive. The Tokyo 2020 Olympics video game offers a genuine Olympic experience for everyone.
