Ditto, the slimy bastard
Ditto, the slimy bastard Reddit

Right now I’m in Las Vegas, covering an event for Amazon (more on that later) and thought it might be a good idea to play a bit of Pokémon Go. Whenever I visit a new part of the country, I always take a look at what Pokémon are lurking around; San Francisco has more Digletts than I ever thought possible. When I opened the app, I had quite the surprise. The new tracker, y’know, the one players have been clamoring for ever since Niantic removed the three-step counter, works here. . After spending a bit too much money gambling at the casino, I decided to try out this new tracker and see if it actually helps you catch more Pokémon.

How Well Does The New Pokémon GO tracker Work?

The new tracker is way more precise than the original. Instead of showing the rough estimate of where Pokémon might be, it shows what Pokestop Pokémon are near. If you see a Tauros on your tracker screen, it will be within dozen feet of where the Pokestop shown is. You don’t have to blindly guess where that one Scyther you need to finish your collection might be, which is amazing in it’s own right.

I still have been unable to find a Ditto. That purple blob is one of my favorite Pokémon and I’ve been hunting non-stop since it’s release to find one. Last night, I decided I would go on an adventure. Using nothing but the new tracker, I would try and find as many Pokémon as possible, in hopes of finding a Ditto.

Moving from casino to casino, dodging the old men in cowboy hats smoking cigars at the craps tables, I navigated my way to every Pokestop on the map. From the foot of the Eiffel Tower, to the middle of the Hard Rock Cafe, I scoured the desert of Nevada in search of my Ditto. After hours of (slightly drunken) exploration, my journey had to come to an end. I caught around 20 Pokémon and none of them were Ditto.

Disappointed, I did still manage to get something out of my venture. The new Pokémon tracker made finding Pokémon a breeze. I didn’t have to wander around blindly to find that one Growlithe that the game says is nearby, because I know it’s standing next to Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant. I spent more time catching Pokémon and less time wandering around like a doofus.

If you’ve left Pokémon Go because of it’s frustrating inability to pinpoint where to find Pokémon, this is exactly what you need. The tracker has been rolled out in North America and Europe, so tell us what you think of it in the comments.
