Tarrey Town is Breath of the Wild ’s most un-Zelda feature. Tarrey Town doesn’t exist until you finish it after completing the 'From the Ground Up' sidequest. It’s a bit of settlement building and (I think) a first for the franchise. It should be noted that it only becomes available after you buy a house in Hateno Village. Odds are you’ve already done that or you wouldn’t need this guide. But what you do need this walkthrough for is the start-to-finish steps for completing the 'From the Ground Up' sidequest and finishing Tarrey Town.

You will need some raw materials and a few regions scouted to finish the 'From the Ground Up' sidequest and activate Tarrey Town. In total you’ll need 110 bundles of wood and quick access to Zora’s Domain, Goron City which requires fireproof protection potions or outfits, Rito Village, which requires cold resistance potions or outfits, and the Kara Kara Bazaar in the Gerudo Desert which requires heat resistance outfits or potions.

If you’ve already found Rito Stable it's a great place to gather wood. You can use bombs on stacks of lumber near the stable, and there’s two woodcutter’s axes lying around and plenty of trees nearby.

BotW Walkthrough: 'From the Ground Up' Part One

After you buy your house you’ll need to talk to Hudson. He’s the guy with the big, round head and bowlcut hairstyle. He’ll tell you he’s being transferred to Akkala. He doesn’t say where, exactly, but we got you. You can find Hudson on a small island in the center of Lake Akkala. He’ll ask for some help recruiting folks for Tarrey Town. And 10 bundles of wood, which you should already have. Then he’ll ask you to find a Goron.

Warp to Goron City and head south to the Southern Mine area. There’s a Goron named Greyson who sits by the cooking fire at night. He’s your man. Turn on the charm and he’ll agree to head to Tarrey Town to be a gemstone vendor. After he’s on his way, go back to see Hudson in Tarrey Town and get the next part of the 'From the Ground Up' sidequest.

BotW Walkthrough: 'From the Ground Up' Part Two

When you talk to Hudson again he’ll need (guess what??) more wood. This time it’s 20 bundles. And after Hudson gets his wood he tells you he needs a tailor for Tarrey Town. You’ll find one at the Kara Kara Bazaar outside Gerudo Town. This tailor’s name is Rhondson. You can find her sitting in the shade in front of the inn. She agrees to be the tailor, and once again you’re back in Tarrey Town getting more wood and finding more people with “-son” in their name.

BotW Walkthrough: 'From the Ground Up' Part Three

Talk to Hudson again and he’ll ask for 30 bundles of wood. Give it to him, and he’ll explain he needs a Rito to run his general store. Fast travel to Rito Village and look for Fyson. You might remember him as the emo Riot sitting and moaning about his overbearing mother. Well, now he’s ready to do mama proud and run a kickass store in Tarrey Town. Bonus: he sells arrows! You always need arrows. Head back to Tarrey Town and talk to Hudson again. You’re almost there!

BotW Walkthrough: 'From the Ground Up' Part Four

Now Hudson needs 50 bundles of wood and someone who can officiate a wedding ( awww … ). You’ll be heading to Zora’s Domain to find a Zora named Kapson. He hangs out one floor above the Ne’ez Yohma Shrine, an older looking Zora with magenta skin. Give him the spiel and he’ll agree to go to Tarrey Town for the wedding. Warp back to Hudson (he’ll likely be an Rhondson’s clothing store) who will ask you to do one … more … thing, but it’s easy. All you need to do to finish the 'From the Ground Up' sidequest is invite Hudson’s buddies to the wedding. They’re the guys who worked on your house and, for some reason, just hang around outside it all day. If you forgot where you live, it’s south of Hateno Village. Talk to Hudson’s pals and go back to tarrey Town for the wedding. Once it ends, get your reward from Hudson: three diamonds.

That’s all?!?

Yeah, it’s a little light considering all the running around you have to do but the real value comes from having Tarrey Town as a shopping spot. Hang on to those diamonds, too. They’re super useful for repairing/replacing some of the legendary weapons you find throughout Breath of the Wild .
