Focus Home Interactive and Deck13 have finally opened up a chance for fans of The Surge to experience its sequel in a closed beta.

This is something I’m really excited for. I played the original The Surge a few years back on a whim, and mostly because I’ve grown tired of repeating the entire Dark Souls trilogy. Between this, Nioh and the also Deck13-developed Lords of the Fallen, I enjoyed The Surge the most, despite its heavy jank and sometimes buggy gameplay.

My excitement was kind of crushed, though, seeing as the closed beta will be only open to a handful of people. And by handful, I mean about 50 of them. Check out the official tweet from the team down below announcing the closed beta.

“The team has been working hard on The Surge 2 and we’ve now reached a stage at which we’d like to gather feedback about the game,” developer Deck13 stated. “Your reports will be instrumental in order to polish the experience as much as possible.”

Checking out the link for the beta – which can be found here – will let you know that Deck13 is looking for around 50 applicants to participate in the upcoming closed beta. There’s also a somewhat rigorous application; applicants must be over 18 years old, have a PC and a Steam account, and must speak either English or French in order to give some valuable feedback to the team.

As to why the beta is available only on PC, I would assume it’s because Deck13 is looking to develop it further on the most consistent platform. Developing first on PC allows for easier ports to consoles, particularly due to managing system requirements.

If you think you’re lucky enough and fit all the criteria Deck13 is looking for, plus you consider yourself to be a big fan of The Surge, sign up here.

If you’re lucky enough to be chosen, Deck13 notes that this closed beta is “strictly confidential,” meaning that you won’t be able to share screenshots, videos or any information regarding the new game.

The Surge 2 is set to be released some time this year for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
