Hannibal season 3 premieres this week! And you probably don’t know it, but you should be watching it. Two years in and on the verge of the third, the show has kept getting better and better. It’s probably the best drama on network television—certainly the best one I know of—and in the wake of other big shows like Mad Men ending, it’s time for you guys to get in on this.

Hannibal Season 3 Premiere Date Confirmed: Why This Season Will Be The Best Yet

The third season of Hannibal premieres on June 4 at 10pm on… wait for it… NBC. Yup, it’s on NBC, and it’s good! I know it’s hard to believe. But this is the age of trickle-down television. Ten years ago, everything good was on HBO. Then Mad Men came out, and then Breaking Bad, and then a whole slew of good shows on FX and elsewhere, and all of a sudden now there are good dramas… on network television. It’s like the early ‘90s all over again, but with much better production values.

I suggest you take advantage. Hannibal is the story of famed psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter’s early years, living in Baltimore rather than in prison, and on the hunt for serial killers, besides of course for himself. Played by Mads Mikkelsen, Hannibal is by far the best part of the show. Some of the other season one characters, including Will Graham and Jack Crawford (Lawrence Fishburne), are a bit more obnoxious and feel more networky, but Mikkelsen alone elevates the show to be worth watching. He’s… just… so… well… mannered! This season, Gillian Anderson—a guest star since season 1—joins on as a permanent, full-time cast member, and man, it’s hard not to get excited about that. She’s the third best thing about the show, after Mikkelsen and puns about cannibalism (I would love to have you over for dinner!).

Sadly, you can’t really just jump right into Hannibal season 3 on June 4 if you haven’t seen the first two seasons. Unsadly, those are both on Amazon Prime Video, so get thee to it. You’ve got five days to watch two seasons of television! Or, you know, however long you want. Regardless, it’s worth it.
