The Game of Thrones season 6 premiere date is no mystery; we’re going to get the next season of HBO’s biggest hit ever the same time we always do… come out around the same time. That puts a lot of people in an awkward situation. Which one should you enjoy first?

Winds Of Winter Vs Game Of Thrones Season 6

For the purposes of this article, let’s pretend that Winds of Winter does come out around the time of Game of Thrones season 6 next year. This is actually a reasonably big assumption, but let’s go with it. Hell, let’s pretend the book and the new season come out on the same day, which they almost certainly won’t. What would you do? Would you read the book first before watching any of the season? Watch the whole season before cracking open the book? Or try to read along with the show?

I think it’s a tough question, and one we haven’t had to deal with before, for Game of Thrones or for any other series I can think of at the moment. Of course, there’s no right answer, but it’s still a telling choice. If you watch the show first, it will spoil Winds of Winter—but the changes in the show won’t piss you off so much. And you won’t know what was as Game of Thrones season 6 airs sounds pretty fun, but let’s be realistic: You aren’t going to be able to balance that. Heck, the last season had moments from four different books, everything from Storm to Winds. Good luck picking the exact right chapters to read.

No, the only right answer is to wait for Winds of Winter before watching Game of Thrones season 6. If the book has a release date at all by the time the next season rolls around, I think most really serious series fans will take a pause, wait for the book to come out, gobble it down, and then catch up on television thereafter. Even if the books aren’t your first love, they are more enjoyable before the television’s image imprints on your mind.

That’s my logic, anyway: Winds of Winter first, if it’s coming out in the first half of 2016. If not… well, that’s a question for another day. What do you think? Will you read Winds of Winter before watching Game of Thrones season 6?
