Cloud Amiibo Release Date: It’ll Be A Long Wait For The Final Fantasy 7 Amiibo, But Worth It

Cloud has just been confirmed for Super Smash Bros Nintendo

Final Fantasy 7’s Cloud is joining Super Smash Bros, a piece of shocking news that you certainly know already by this point. And, thanks to the final Super Smash Bros Direct presentation, we know that Cloud actually is getting his own Amiibo. It’ll be released alongside the other two final characters, Corrin and Bayonetta, at a yet to be determined point in 2016. Sadly, though, it looks like it’s going to be a bit of a long wait… albeit one that’s very much worth it.

Final Fantasy 7 Cloud Amiibo Release Date: Sometime After March 2016

The last trio of Amiibo figures were confirmed at the December Super Smash Bros Direct, as were another trio of Amiibo figures. Cloud, Bayonetta and Corrin don’t have a release date yet. The other three newest Amiibo, however, do: Ryu, Roy and ROB (alliterative!) are all finally getting their own figures on March 18, 2016. Even that is pretty far away! Does Nintendo have a big Star Fox Amiibo push planned for the spring or something? Well, now that I mention it… probably. That makes a lot of sense. After all, the only other Amiibo we know about before then is the Shovel Knight Amiibo, which is out on January 8… and that can’t be all that huge in terms of quantities, can it?

Regardless, it doesn’t seem too likely that the Cloud/Bayonetta/Corrin Amiibo trio will come out before the ones that have already been announced… which means we’re looking at April or May at the earliest for the last set of Super Smash Bros Amiibos. That’s a pretty long wait… after all, Super Smash Bros first came out in 2014. The last Amiibos won’t be out until almost two years later. That’s far and away Nintendo’s longest DLC lifecycle for a single game ever (and that’s a good thing!).

However, I think it’s going to be worth glomming onto that Cloud Amiibo as soon as you possibly can. After all, well, it’s a Cloud Amiibo. And it probably won’t stick around too long. But most importantly, Nintendo has a tendency to use some of its Amiibos in later games, like Shulk in Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. And considering that it’s distinctly possible that Final Fantasy 7 Remake will someday come to the Nintendo NX… you may want to lock down that Cloud Amiibo while you can. Just in case.
