Minecraft: Story Mode debuted on most platforms back in October, but its Wii U version was delayed by a few months to make way for a much larger and more momentous title: The full Minecraft Wii U Edition, which came out in December. Well, with the groundwork laid, Telltale Games’ story-based adventure is finally coming to the Wii U, and soon. The first episode of the game will be out in just a few days, on Jan. 21.
Minecraft: Story Mode Wii U Release Date: Just Around The Corner
The initial announcement of Minecraft: Story Mode for Wii U came as a huge surprise. At the time it was announced, many of us had given up hope that any form of Minecraft would come to Wii U, despite some intimations otherwise from Mojang after the Microsoft acquisition. And Story Mode was announced for Wii U long before any official announcement of the game proper. Indeed, Story Mode is what paved the way for full Minecraft on Wii U. The engine had to come over first.
Well, all that’s behind us, and Minecraft Wii U Edition is doing swimmingly on the eShop. Now, Story Mode is finally here. Episode 1 debuts on Jan. 21 and will only run for a measly $5, according to IGN. The season pass will include the first five episodes and run for only $20, saving you a fancy Abraham Lincoln. Those episodes aren’t far away either: The rest are arriving in “the coming weeks.” Not months, mind you.
Minecraft: Story Mode is a very different game from Minecraft, although it does channel some of the same spirit. It’s more like Telltale’s other games than like the sandbox we all know and love. It’s also very family-friendly and accessible, so if you’ve got kids, Story Mode is a great introduction to story-telling games in a format and setting they’ll understand and be pretty excited about. But it’s not really a block-building game. It’s an entirely different animal.
