StarCraft 2: Nova Covert Ops, the first-ever proper DLC for a StarCraft game, finally has a release date! The mission pack includes three sets of three missions, and the first of those sets will be launching on March 29. That’s substantially earlier than Blizzard led us to believe (they promised us the first half of the year, suggesting a release around June). And if you’re a StarCraft 2 fan, the whole mission pack is worth preordering in advance. You get a substantial discount if you do.

StarCraft 2: Nova Covert Ops Release Date: Stand-Alone And Coming Soon

First things first: StarCraft 2: Nova Covert Ops is officially stand-alone. Not only does the game not require the final expansion, Legacy of the Void, it doesn’t even require StarCraft 2. If you’ve ever wanted to dabble in StarCraft 2 or are just a big fan of Ghosts, now’s your chance. The only requirement is the StarCraft 2 Starter Edition, the game’s free demo version.

Nova Covert Ops focuses on Nova, a Terran Ghost who we saw a reasonable amount of throughout StarCraft 2. This time, she’s out to protect the Terran Dominion under Valerian Mengsk against a variety of upstarts and Terran rebels. Blizzard tells us that the campaign will include such activities as “infiltrating enemy bases, intercepting planetary invasions, leveraging experimental technology, and even more top-secret operations,” and that the mission pack will also feature several new features we haven’t seen before.

Each mission pack in Nova Covert Ops costs $7.50 on its own, but if you pre-order the full pack, you can get all three sets—nine missions total—for $14.99. That’s a pretty substantial discount, so it’s worth considering if you’re a big StarCraft single-player fan. It’s worth mentioning that Blizzard has promised that the full mission pack, all three sets, will be released by December 1. The company originally promised this first pack by June 19, so Blizzard is already well ahead of schedule. And that’s promising.
