StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void came out way back in November, but that doesn’t mean StarCraft 2 is over. For the first time, Blizzard is offering proper DLC for one of its flagship strategy games. That’s taking the form of Nova Covert Ops, a Ghost-driven story featuring Nova, a side character from StarCraft 2. Blizzard has finally opened up the veil, giving us guidance on release windows and feature details for the upcoming DLC.

StarCraft 2: Nova Covert Ops Release Window Confirmed

Nova Covert Ops is a nine-mission DLC in three parts, each consisting of three missions each. Blizzard has revealed that the first of these parts will be available “on or before June 19, 2016.” That’s a helpful window, if still a ways away. Even more helpfully, the company has confirmed that the third and last mission pack will be available “on or before December 1, 2016.” So we’re not going to get any Nova missions for a few months yet, in all likelihood, but once they arrive they’ll be coming fast. The mission pack only requires StarCraft 2: Starter Edition, which means you don’t even need to buy StarCraft 2 to buy Nova Covert Ops.

Blizzard has also revealed a few more details about the plot and features of the upcoming mission pack. We knew that the campaign would loosely be about Nova’s efforts to shore up the Terran Dominion in the wake of Legacy of the Void. But now we know that she’ll be facing off against a group called the Defenders of Man, and they may have been responsible for the disappearances of several Dominion Ghosts. Spooky stuff! We’ve heard in the past that Nova will have the full might of the Dominion behind her—suggesting she’ll get access to powers along the lines of those provided by the Spear of Adun in Legacy of the Void—and will have some special psionic-specific units or buildings. All good stuff.

It’s worth mentioning that Nova Covert Ops is actually worth preordering, and comes with a big discount if you do. The pack runs for $22.50 for nine missions, or $7.50 a pack. Or you can preorder it and get all three packs for $14.99. That’s a good savings, if you’re on the market for more StarCraft 2 missions. And now that we have some loose guidance as to when the missions will launch, we can make a better decision.
