The official Star Wars website has confirmed the rumored casting of Woody Harrelson in the upcoming Han Solo movie.

Expected in 2018 as the second Star Wars Story after Rogue One and the follow-up to Star Wars: Episode 8, the Han Solo movie stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo and Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian. But more interesting than the known characters are those cast additions who will play new and unknown influences on the life and origins of the rakish smuggler we first met in 1977’s Star Wars.

“We couldn’t be more excited to work with an artist with as much depth and range as Woody,” Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the Han Solo movie’s directors, said. “His ability to find both humor and pathos, often in the same role, is truly unique. He is also very good at ping pong.”

The next two years will see Harrelson anchoring two major sci-fi franchises, beginning with his turn as the villain of this year’s War for the Planet of the Apes. While his exact role in the Han Solo movie is unclear, rumor has him playing a mentor or father figure to the young Han Solo.
