Hazelight Studios strikes again with a big win. Their newest co-op journey, "Split Fiction," has now passed four million copies sold since it was released in March, an unmatched success that even EA didn't see coming.
'Split Fiction' Surpasses 4 Million Sales Worldwide
Regarded as "highly successful" on Electronic Arts' Q4 2025 earnings call, "Split Fiction" was confirmed to have surpassed sales estimates by almost twice. The game had already passed the 1 million copy milestone in just 48 hours since launch, a sign of the viral success that followed.
Hazelight wrote on X (previously Twitter) about thanking gamers across the globe for embracing "Split Fiction," stating,
"So many of you have picked up Split Fiction already, it's amazing seeing the fun you have with our game, and the love you show for Mio, Zoe, and each other warms our hearts here at Hazelight. And so many hot dogs made..."

The development team credits broad visibility to its unconventional co-op format: a single purchaser is enough for both consumers to play the game online cooperatively. Such a feature arguably enabled the game to reach around 8 million players across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
Hazelight Studios Proves Its Role in Co-Op Game Creation
"Split Fiction" keeps the tradition of Hazelight in challenging the notion of multiplayer storytelling. Centered around engaging two-player experiences, the narrative-driven adventure provides a cinematic experience based on real collaboration. Its fusion of puzzle-solving, emotional storytelling, and split-screen play has resonated with gamers and critics worldwide.
Significantly, this game was published under EA's "EA Originals" banner, famous for backing innovative indie titles, and its success has been a huge victory for both firms.
EA CEO Andrew Wilson called it a "breakout success" that resonated worldwide, affirming the need for deep, communal gameplay experiences.
Critics Praise One of 2025's Highest-Rated Games
Since its March 6 release, "Split Fiction" has shot up to the head of 2025's highest-rated games list. Its engaging narrative, responsive level design, and original co-op system have received general critical praise.
Criticisms applauded the emotional richness of its story and the way each game aspect promoted player cooperation, setting it apart in a crowded market.
In the same earnings call, EA CFO Stuart Canfield also pointed to "Split Fiction" as one of the major drivers of the company's robust Q4 performance, according to GameSpot. Not only did the game surpass expectations—it almost doubled them, a feat that justifies EA Originals' investment in new and innovative IPs.
"Split Fiction" will also be available on Nintendo Switch 2 soon.
