'Sonic Blitz': Dash Into Action With Sonic and Friends in This Marvel Snap-Style Mobile Game

You won't view card battle games the same way as before.

If you like card battlers and have a weakness for the world's speediest blue hedgehog, "Sonic Blitz" could be your new mobile game addiction. From Rovio, this quick-paced digital card battle borrows some mechanics from "Pokémon TCG Pocket" and "Marvel Snap."

Although it's still in the soft launch phase in the Philippines, the hype for a full release is building fast.

What's With the 'Sonic Blitz' Craze?

"Sonic Blitz" is a real-time, lane-based card battler that brings the high-speed energy of Sonic the Hedgehog to the strategic format of trading card games. With quick match times and foil card packs, the game offers an addictive loop of collecting, strategizing, and dashing into enemy territory.

The most exciting part of the game, however, is the Dash System, which means all the cards deployed onto the track spring into action at the end of every turn.

The dashing ones dash toward the opponent's base, attacking their force field until the HP drops to zero. Every character card has unique stats, such as attack power and health, along with a special skill that ensures that the battles are always changing and varied.

Meet the Iconic Sonic Characters and Visit Their Locations

From Green Hill Zone to Chemical Plant, long-time fans of the series will feel comfortable as always with the stage choices. The iconic Sonic locations bring the nostalgic scenery to every match, while the foil card packs are filled with familiar characters from the world of Sonic—Sonic himself, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and even Dr. Eggman.

Players will be able to pick up these character cards as they go along, revealing shiny cosmetic versions to unlock in the process. Similarly to "Marvel Snap," you'll also get to personalize your deck with various card frames and effects, the ultimate for collectors who like to flaunt their prized possessions.

How to Play 'Sonic Blitz'

The gameplay appears to be deceptively straightforward. Characters are picked and dropped onto a three-lane game board by players, alternatively with an opponent (or, in the present time, an AI bot because of the restricted regional availability). According to PocketGamer, the cards then charge ahead at the end of each turn, trying to deplete the enemy base to zero HP.

Individual matches last approximately three minutes, so "Sonic Blitz" is perfectly suited to mobile players who crave fast, rewarding games on the move.

At the moment, only players from the Philippines can play it. The global launch is expected to happen soon, but there's no exact date of release yet.

As of now, most matches pair players with AI opponents and a training version of Sonic, which may feel a bit too easy for seasoned card game players. However, this early phase gives players a chance to get familiar with the mechanics before the competition heats up in future updates.

Despite being in soft launch, "Sonic Blitz" already shows immense potential thanks to its TCG strategy, fast-paced action, and Sonic charm. Rovio's track record with mobile hits like "Angry Birds" and "Bad Piggies" only fuels the excitement for what could be another smash success.
