Publisher Team17 and developer Fika Productions confirmed a November 22 release date for Ship of Fools, a two-player couch co-op and online roguelite action game set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Ship of Fools is the studio’s first major video game, and to celebrate the release date announcement, Team17 has released a new trailer which you can check out below.
Ship of Fools features a very clean cartoonish art style with various game elements and aspects, from base building and maintenance to overworld exploration and combat. Although the game is heavily geared toward multiplayer, in particular couch co-op, Ship of Fools can also be played solo, so if the game interests you but you do not have someone to play with, do not be alarmed.
Ship of Fools is a seafaring roguelite co-op game where players play as a pair of Fools, as the title suggests. These Fools are named thusly as they are the only creatures foolish enough to brave the sea and whatever dangers it throws around. A Great Lighthouse that once stood as a protector of the Archipelago has been broken, and with it arrived a storm of malice and corruption.
With your shipmate, you will board The Stormstrider and make your way across a desolate sea. The Stormstrider is well-equipped against the sea’s many dangers, and along the journey, you and your Fool shipmate will need to man the cannons, ready the sails, and protect the ship at all costs against various monsters over multiple runs.
Ship of Fools features a wide variety of gameplay aspects tailored for co-op play, challenging you and your shipmate to cover each other’s backs and work together to protect The Stormstrider and survive the hordes of sea-based enemies.
Along the way, you will encounter islands with old lost treasures and remote shops, but the Everlasting Storm is unforgiving. This freak of nature changes its movements as you chart your way through every sector, so be sure to react to its blockage accordingly to survive. Ship of Fools features many Fools to choose from and over 100 trinkets and artifacts to collect on your seafaring.
