Well, here’s an interesting development for the future of Shadows of Mordor 2, a game which may or may not exist: It may be coming to the Nintendo NX. That’s based on a job posting on developer Monolith Productions’ website, as spotted by Nintendolife. The listing suggests that the company is hiring people who know their way around Nintendo software, and that’s promising for the future of third-party support on the Nintendo NX.

Shadows Of Mordor 2: Coming To Nintendo NX?

How do Redditors find job postings like these ? I certainly don’t know, but more power to them for it. Job listings have become a great and reasonably reliable source for solid gaming rumors. The Monolith Productions post is for a Quality Assurance manager, and one of the many requirements for the job is as follows: “Knowledge of certification standards for Microsoft (TCR compliance), Sony (TRC compliance), or Nintendo (Lot Check).” That’s interesting because Monolith has never, in over 20 years, released a game on a Nintendo system.

So why is the company hiring someone with Nintendo expertise now? The most likely answer, obviously, is the coming Nintendo NX—Nintendo’s first system since the GameCube that will (probably) be more powerful than its competitors—at least until the rumored PS4.5 comes out. And Nintendo has reportedly been making a lot of outreach to third parties in an effort to avoid the problems it has had the last generation and a half or so. A big publisher like Warner Bros. is clearly a key part of that effort.

If it’s real, if Monolith really is seriously developing its next game—presumably Shadow of Mordor 2—for the Nintendo NX, that’s a good sign. Don’t take this news as any kind of a sure thing; it’s far from it. But one of the biggest keys to the Nintendo NX’s success is going to be third-party support. And we’ve just seen one of the first signs that that support may be coming.
